You will need:
1 Cup softened butter
1 Cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond or walnut extract
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups all purpose flour
Sanding sugar, and any decorations desired.
Food coloring (optional, I used the green color for the leaves).
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In the bowl mix butter and sugar. Add almond or walnut extract and egg.
In a separate bowl combine baking powder and flour, them gradually add your wet mixture. Knead the dough very well. Immediately divide and roll onto a floured surface. Cut with cookie cutters. Cookies should be approximately 1/4 inch.
Bake at 350 for 6 minutes. Let cool on the rack sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack.
Decorate and enjoy!
